Satin
Ribbon - comes with one side shiny or if "double backed
satin" both sides are shiny. This ribbon works great for
simple containers and woven baskets. The ribbon does not
gather well and is best suited to folding or weaving into
shape. TOP
Bias
Weave Ribbon - Mokuba makes a bias weave ribbon and
I have also found metallic bias weaves in upholstery stores.
This ribbon can be used for designs that have fluid lines
such as borders, and in the 2-stitch petals. When used
in a border it is laid on top of the foundation fabric
and stitched on each edge into place. When used for 2-stitch
petals it is threaded through a chenille or darner and
stitched into the foundation fabric. This ribbon is a
little harder to find and fun to use. TOP
Rayon
- Years ago you could find rayon seam binding at the fabric
stores - now we find it at yard sales. Recently this style
of ribbon is being used for wrapping packages and can
be found at floral and gift shops. Generally comes in
a wide variety of pastels and can be used as 11-13 mm
silk ribbon. TOP
Vintage
Ribbons - Antique ribbons used for fancy millinery
work are also tremendous finds. They range in size from
¼" to 8" wide. They are mainly used for applique or laying
on top as a ribbon and stitching into place. TOP
