Valentine
The featured quilt from Ribbon Appliqué - A Primer by Wendy Grande. I found myself drawn to simple heart shapes. I had started to sell the patterns for the first three quilts. I found that many first time appliqué students were drawn to this work and the desire to work with ribbons. I wanted a small wall hanging that was seasonal, would be the start of another series, and hang easily in my entry. I started working on 4" block. Each block focused on a specific technique. I quickly determined there were 25 blocks to be done! Starting with simple appliqué using ribbon, progressing to including the silk embroidery ribbon and easing into the more complex designs. The intent of the quilt and the book is really two-fold: 1.) to showcase the techniques needed to do all of the blocks in the first three quilts and 2.) show small samples of the techniques that can easily be incorporated into a wide variety of projects and other quilts.
