Design - Quilt Blocks
This
section of the website is dedicated to technique identification.
Below on the left, you will find a picture of a quilt block.
On the right, you will find the techniques used within areas
of the block. I hope you will be able to utilize this section
in conjunction with the available tips
to help you learn how to incorporate these techniques into
your own quilts.
| Spring
Basket (Get Real) |
 |
-
Basket - two shades of brown were twisted together
to get the light and dark effect of the ribs and weavers
of the basket.
- Pale
Pink Flowers - I used 13mm silk ribbon, rayon seam
binding can be used as well.
- Tulips
- the petals of the flower were individually formed
and appliquéd.

| Meadowlarks
(Rose Vine) |
 |
-
The Meadowlarks - the birds are a combination of fabric
and 4mm silk ribbon for the wing feathers. The distinctive
"V" on the chest of the birds was done with a Pigma
Pen.
-
Leaves - the leaves are split ribbon leaves.
- Roses
- the roses are made from French Wire ribbon, size
9, that has been twisted twice and set as petals as
though the ribbon was ruched.
- Vines
- the vines around the "wreath" are ultra suede couched
into position.
|
 |
| Pansies
(Rose Vine) |
 |
-
Vase - the edge and decorative "boxes" on the vase
are made from folding the ribbon and stitching it
together to get the shape, and then appliquéing the
collective pieces.
- Pansies
- the pansies are three petals of ruched ribbon and
the upper two are made from a single piece of ribbon
used to outline the upper petals and not add the bulk
of two additional ruched petals.
- Leaves
- simple leaves cut from ultra suede using scallop
pinking shears.

Oriole (Enjoy) |
 |
- Tree
& twigs - a blend of cotton fabric on the tree and
bias cut ribbon for the twigs
- Leaves
- all cotton fabrics
- Oriole
- French wire ribbons for the body and wings. The
black and white feathers started with white 7 mm Silk
Ribbon that was "colored" with a pigma pen to get
the black and white effect.
